The Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering at Istanbul Technical University marked another milestone this year with the 34th edition of its traditional Petroleum and Natural Gas Exhibition, a long-standing platform where students present innovative projects, research findings, and industry-relevant solutions.

This year’s exhibition was held in honor of Dr. Metih Mıhçakan, a beloved retired faculty member who dedicated decades to the education of petroleum engineers at İTÜ. The exhibition brought together students, faculty members, alumni, and industry professionals, further strengthening the ties between academia and the energy sector. Through events like these, İTÜ continues to inspire future generations while honoring the legacy of those who helped build its foundation.

The event brought together representatives from leading companies in the energy sector, executive-level professionals, academics, alumni, and students. ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, Faculty of Mines Dean Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kumral, and TPAO CEO Ahmet Türkoğlu honored the seminar with their participation. The primary aim of the seminar was to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and students, offering a unique platform for knowledge exchange, network building, and career development.

Throughout the event, participating companies had the opportunity to present their current projects, share insights on industry trends, and establish new professional connections. Students and recent graduates benefited from direct interactions with key stakeholders in the energy sector, gaining valuable perspectives on potential career paths, internship opportunities, and the evolving needs of the industry. The event also served as a bridge for young professionals to expand their professional network and gain visibility as they embark on their careers.

As faculty of mines, we are proud to continue strengthening our ties with the industry through such initiatives, and to provide our students with direct exposure to real-world professional environments before graduation.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all participants, contributors, and supporting organizations. We look forward to continuing this meaningful tradition in the years to come.

The Faculty of Mines was established in 1953 in Istanbul. At its first years, the faculty composed of mainly Turkish and German professors, and its program was similar to those days’ famous mining schools such as Aachen, Clausthal and Freiberg.

Today, the Faculty of Mines with five departments (Mining, Geological, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Geophysical, and Mineral Processing Engineering) and 13 sub-divisions is graduating young and proficient engineers to search, develop and produce underground sources of Turkey.
