YER2025 symposium focusing the undergraduate student design projects in Earth Sciences that was honored by the participation of Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Durak Ata, Istanbul Technical University (ITU) vice rector, has been enriched with interesting presentations by our students.

In this event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mahmut Oğuz Selbesoğlu, the director of the ITU Polar Reseacrh Center and faculty member of the Department of Geomatics Engıneering and our faculty member Assist. Prof. Dr. Alp Ünal gave their speeches on the recent progress on the research activity initiated in Antarctic region.

YER Symposiums are held on an annual basis in June with a view to disseminating the outcomes of various undergraduate design projects conducted by ITU Faculty of Mines students under the supervision of their thesis advisors to the scientific community. Oral and poster presentations from 33 capstone projects selected by our department heads and relevant commissions met with the earth sciences community at the symposium.

In addition to the substantial field and laboratory studies, the theses encompassing original design and analysis methodologies, and the voluminous proceedings embodying the substance of the presented works, are pivotal in demonstrating the rigorous endeavours undertaken in these student projects. These design projects, signifying the inaugural scientific and technological research efforts of senior students prior to their entry into the professional realm, necessitate meticulous scientific collaboration, wherein students, research assistants, and thesis advisors converge within the scope of these studies.  For this reason, activities reflecting the essence of graduation studies are highly valued by our faculty and maximum effort is put to make these studies more comprehensive in the form of beneficial teamwork.
