On March 8th, Istanbul Technical University’s Faculty of Mines hosted a remarkable event celebrating International Women’s Day, focusing on the pioneering role of women in the scientific and industrial fields of mining and geosciences.

Held with the participation of top-level university leadership, including ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, the event brought together leading female figures from academia and the mining industry. Distinguished speakers such as Prof. Dr. Fatma Arslan, Leyla Keser Berber (Director, EIT Raw Materials Inter-Regional Center), and Rebecca Burton (Director, IRMA – Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance) highlighted the essential contributions of women across the sector.

The program began with opening remarks and the national anthem, followed by a musical performance from the ITU Faculty of Mines Women's Academic Ensemble. A series of keynote speeches and panel discussions addressed women’s growing leadership in mining, technological innovation, and sustainable resource management.

In addition to the talks, the event featured a special art exhibition curated by female academic staff of the Faculty of Mines, reflecting the intersection of science, industry, and artistic expression.

This inspiring event not only honored the achievements of women in mining and geosciences but also served as a platform to foster greater visibility, inclusion, and empowerment for future generations of women in science and technology.
