On October 24-25, 2023, the 2nd Industry-Academia-Student meetings were held with a large participation where sector representatives in mining and geosciences came together with academicians and students.
TÜMAD Mining Inc. was the gold sponsor, Yıldırım Group of Companies, Barit Maden Türk A.Ş., MİTRA Marble and Çayeli Bakır İşletmeleri were the silver sponsors and Koza Gold Enterprises, MRT Mining & Marble, ACACIA Mining, AYCORE Mining and CASK Companies were the bronze sponsors.
In the 2nd Industry-Academy-Student Meeting, which has a special importance due to the fact that it coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, the 250th anniversary of Istanbul Technical University and the 70th anniversary of the Faculty of Mining, a total of 37 valuable sector representatives shared their experiences and expectations in their fields in various sessions and panels and established important professional connections with our academicians and students.
Within the scope of this event, where 102 representative of the sector consisting of 56 different companies and Non-Governmental Organization NGOs and nearly 100 lecturer and faculty staff from all departments of the ITU-Faculty of Mines participated. In addition, the interest and participation of our students in this event was realized at high levels.
The following results were generally obtained within the scope of this event, which attracted participation from a very wide audience;
a) To act jointly to further increase industry-university cooperation on the solutions of the problems faced by the sector,
b) Determining common strategies between sector representative companies and universities in order to make internships, which are the most important part of engineering education, qualified and more effective,
c) Establishing collaborations on changing the negative perception of the mining in the society by collaborating on popularizing the geosciences and mining profession in all segments,
d) Within the scope of improving the relations of our department professors within the ITU Faculty of Mines with the sector; technical trips should be organized to companies operating in the sector to ensure the adaptation of students to the sector; Inviting experienced experts from the industry to the courses; Developing joint projects related to the use of the extensive facilities and laboratories of our University and increasing such events where the Academy and the Sector will come together.
