Underground coal gasification (UCG) is a promising alternative to surface gasification. The process can be described as the gasification of coal in situ and the production of low-heating value synthesis gas through wells drilled in the coal seam. Synthesis gas, or syngas, mainly consists of CO, H2, CO2, and CH4. Electricity is generated using syngas in a combined cycle power plant, or syngas gas is converted into valuable hydrocarbon products such as naphtha, diesel, kerosene, methanol, dimethyl ether, etc. through processes such as Fischer – Tropsch.
There are no studies on the underground gasification of Asfaltites in the literature. The study aims to investigate the possible application of underground gasification to Asfaltites.

Within the scope of the project, Şırnak asphaltites are evaluated for underground gasification through laboratory experiments as well as small-scale field experiments.
