Mining Awareness Seminar for Students in Şile by ITU Faculty of Mining Engineering

In collaboration with the Şile District Directorate of National Education, Istanbul Technical University organized an outreach seminar titled “Let’s Get to Know Our Minerals” on 12 May 2025, at Şile Necda Moralıgil Primary and Secondary School. The event was attended by faculty members from ITU’s Faculty of Mining Engineering, Şile District Director of National Education Mr. Dursun Teyram, SERHAM President Mr. Adnan Geredeli, regional school principals, and local sand and clay industry representatives.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness among students about the role of minerals in our daily lives, sustainable mining practices, environmentally responsible mining technologies, and the underground resources of our country. Through presentations delivered by ITU’s expert academics, the event sought to introduce the fundamentals of mining to students and spark their interest in the field.

• Adnan GEREDELİ – Chairman of the Board, SERHAM

Thanks to this meaningful event, students not only gained basic knowledge about mining but also became more informed about Turkey’s underground mineral wealth.

As the ITU Faculty of Mining Engineering, we took part in the event titled "Promoting a Love for Mining", held at Necda Moralıgil Primary and Secondary School in Sofular Village, Şile. The event was attended by Şile District Director of National Education Mr. Dursun Teyram, SERHAM President Mr. Adnan Geredeli, regional school principals, local sand and clay industry representatives, and our department heads. During this meaningful gathering, we engaged with students to inform them about the importance of mining, Turkey’s underground resources, and environmentally responsible mining practices.
