As part of its ongoing mission to promote mining awareness and inspire future generations, ITU Faculty of Mines has launched a meaningful outreach initiative aimed at introducing the world of earth sciences and engineering to younger students. Most recently, faculty members, including the Dean Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kumral, Department Heads of Geological Engineering, and Mining Engineering, Prof. Dr. Şenel Özdamar and Prof. Dr. Abdullah Fişne, Assist. Prof. Dr. Şükriye Beste Aydın of the Mineral Processing Engineering, visited Necla Moralıgil Primary and Middle School in Sofular Village, Şile.
During this impactful event, the academic team held a panel discussion and interactive sessions with students, aiming to spark curiosity about the natural resources sector and to foster a sense of environmental and social responsibility. The visit aimed to introduce students to the field of mining and the profession, and to inspire them by connecting them with higher education role models.
This initiative is part of our broader commitment to social responsibility and inclusive education. By engaging with schools at the primary and secondary levels, the Faculty of Mines emphasizes the importance of early exposure to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines.
The event in Şile stands as a reflection of ITU’s dedication to community development and its belief in the transformative power of education. Through such efforts, the the Faculty of Mines aims to build lasting bridges between academia and society, nurturing not only future engineers but also informed and responsible citizens.
