2023 ITU Academic Performance Awards

The second ITU Academic Performance Awards took place on 18 May. A total of 14 academics from the Faculty of Mines were awarded in two categories, academic performance and publications.

Istanbul Technical University's Academic Achievement Award Ceremony was held at Süleyman Demirel Cultural Centre on 18th May. The ceremony was attended by our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Ali Deniz, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kumral, Prof. Dr. Şule Itır Satoğlu and Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Durak Ata, as well as Faculty Deans and many Faculty members.

Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu gave the opening speech of the ceremony: "The work of our academics has a very important place in line with the achievements of our university and our goals for the future. For this reason, we attach great importance to rewarding the work of our academics". Prof. Dr. Koyuncu also emphasised in his speech that ITU is the university that brings the most academics to Turkey.

In the academic performance category, criteria such as the number of publications - citations – and projects within the department, the number of credits, the number of projects and the budget of the course, and the number of postgraduate students who graduated in 2020-2022 were decisive; in the publications category, our academics who published the most during 2022 were deemed worthy of the award.

 

In the “Academic Performance and Publication” category, our faculty members from the Department of Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, Geophysical Engineering, and Mineral Processing Engineering Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kumral, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sabri Çelik, Prof. Dr. Kürşad Kadir Eriş, Prof. Dr. Nurgül Çelik Balcı, Prof. Dr. Ziyadin Çakır, Prof. Dr. Türker Hüdaverdi, Prof. Dr. Cemal Balcı, Prof. Dr. Ataç Başçetin, Prof. Dr. Şafak Altunkayak, Prof. Dr. Hanifi Çopur, Prof. Dr. Gürşat Altun, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Çınar,  Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuna Eken, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Gülsen Uçarkuş are included in the list of the 2nd ITU Academic Performance Awards.

The Faculty of Mines was established in 1953 in Istanbul. At its first years, the faculty composed of mainly Turkish and German professors, and its program was similar to those days’ famous mining schools such as Aachen, Clausthal and Freiberg.

Today, the Faculty of Mines with five departments (Mining, Geological, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Geophysical, and Mineral Processing Engineering) and 13 sub-divisions is graduating young and proficient engineers to search, develop and produce underground sources of Turkey.
