Career-Long and Annual Impact Scientists from our Faculty

Elsevier and Stanford University's annual list of the world's most influential scientists has been announced. 8 valuable professors from the Faculty of Mines in the "Annual impact" category and 7 in the "Career-long impact" category were included in the list.

ITU, with 59 academicians in the "career-long impact" category and 51 academicians in the "annual impact" category, was ranked first among all other Turkish universities in this list. 

Our scientists Prof. Dr. Feridun Boylu, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sabri Çelik, Prof. Dr. Aral Okay, Prof. Dr. Aykut Barka, Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör, Prof. Dr. Hans Jensen Thybo, Prof. Dr. Yücel Yılmaz, and Prof. Dr. Nuh Bilgin related to the ITU Faculty of Mines  in the field of Mineral Processing, Geology, and Mining Engineering were included in the "annual impact and career-long impact" category in the list of the world's most influential scientists, which is held annually by Elsevier and Stanford University.

The Faculty of Mines was established in 1953 in Istanbul. At its first years, the faculty composed of mainly Turkish and German professors, and its program was similar to those days’ famous mining schools such as Aachen, Clausthal and Freiberg.

Today, the Faculty of Mines with five departments (Mining, Geological, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Geophysical, and Mineral Processing Engineering) and 13 sub-divisions is graduating young and proficient engineers to search, develop and produce underground sources of Turkey.
