A tradition of the Faculty of Mines - ITU Petroleum and Natural Gas Seminar and Exhibition

The 30th ITU Petroleum and Natural Gas Seminar and Exhibition has been held online (due to the Covid-19 pandemic) through the dates of 08-09 July 2021.

Each year the event is organized by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Department of ITU and is currently the longest continuing exhibition event in the Petroleum and Natural Gas Industry of Turkey. This year it has been held in honor of Dr. Fikri Kuchuk who is a graduate of the department and is someone who has always kept good ties with the department throughout his career. He has also provided a significant donation to the department for the “Fikri Kuchuk Computer Lab”.

This year the event has hosted several participants from different parts of the world both from academia and the industry. During the opening talks, the event has hosted the president of the Chamber of Petroleum Engineers Mr. Yüksel Kurt and also the President and CEO of TPAO Mr. Melih Han Bilgin along with our Dean Prof. Cengiz Kuzu, our Rector Prof. İsmail Koyuncu and the guest of honor Dr. Fikri Kuchuk. Graduates celebrating their 25th year have also been honored during the event. Overall, it has been a very fruitful exhibition.

The Faculty of Mines was established in 1953 in Istanbul. At its first years, the faculty composed of mainly Turkish and German professors, and its program was similar to those days’ famous mining schools such as Aachen, Clausthal and Freiberg.

Today, the Faculty of Mines with five departments (Mining, Geological, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Geophysical, and Mineral Processing Engineering) and 13 sub-divisions is graduating young and proficient engineers to search, develop and produce underground sources of Turkey.
