Within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 1001 Research Program, a multidisciplinary project titled “Development and Performance Evaluation of Hot-Mix Structural Injection Materials for the Restoration of Historic Structures” is being conducted under the coordination of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Dabanlı, with Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kumral serving as academic advisor.
The project focuses on the development of hot-mix–based structural injection materials inspired by traditional restoration techniques historically used in architectural conservation. These materials are designed to improve the structural integrity of historic buildings while maintaining material compatibility with original construction elements.
A key component of the research involves the systematic evaluation of the setting (curing) behavior and overall performance of the developed injection materials. Laboratory-based analyses and performance tests aim to assess mechanical strength, durability, and long-term stability, ensuring that the materials meet both structural and conservation requirements.
By integrating expertise from architecture and geological engineering, the project offers a holistic and science-based approach to heritage conservation. The outcomes are expected to contribute significantly to the field of historic building restoration by providing sustainable, compatible, and performance-driven solutions that respect the material and cultural integrity of historic structures.
This collaboration exemplifies how multidisciplinary research can bridge traditional knowledge and modern engineering to support the preservation of architectural heritage for future generations.
