As Istanbul Technical University’s Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Department, we take great pride in contributing to one of our country’s most strategic energy projects, the Sakarya Gas Field Development Project, within the scope of reservoir engineering.

The Sakarya Gas Field, Turkey’s first large-scale offshore natural gas production project, holds critical importance for strengthening national energy supply security. Transferring ITU’s engineering expertise of over 250 years to the field carries immense value both in supporting our country’s energy independence and in providing our students with hands-on experience in a world-class industrial project.

Within this framework, we integrate the knowledge and experience gained from the field into our academic studies, passing on what we learn to the next generation of engineering candidates. At the same time, we support our search for solutions to field-specific technical challenges through master’s and doctoral research, ensuring that scientific studies are directly aligned with practical applications.

This collaboration with the Sakarya Gas Field stands as a strong example of university–industry–government integration and progresses in harmony with our national energy vision.
